Ok, I'm over 300lbs and was thinking about GBS. But I thought I'd take one more whack at doing it the old fashioned way. It's working! I'm on a great diet that keeps calories down and keeps me full. I just was wondering how much I could cut the calories.

I am curious why is that the way it is?
Does it not ruin the whole point of the surgery? People decide doing the surgery because they cannot lose the weight on their own. they struggle for years to overcome...themselves!
And also, what happens if they do not lose weight? Are they turned down completely to die?

I'm an 18 year old male who has been overweight and then obese since around 8 years old. I've tried countless diets and diet supplements, all ending with me losing some weight, but eventually bouncing back.

The past few years I have considered gastric bypass surgery or lap band (a less serious form) but I am not sure. Everyone knows me as the "big guy" including myself and I just feel like I will be nobody without my "big" persona I carry.

On the other page there is the risks of heart problems, diabetes, and my asthma complications. I am on the fence with whether to decide the surgery or just be me and take the risks of the complications in the future.

Being the big man I am has its advantages as far as strength and other things, while losing weight would mean less health problems and being able to become more attractive.

What should I do in your opinions?

Pre Op Liquid Diet -- I FAILED 11/2/09

So I just made a video yesterday before I went to work about starting my pre op liquid protein diet yesterday. I was pumped that I was going to do it. So I had my protein shake, it wasn't bad at all. I went to Whole Foods before I went to work and bought some premade protein drinks. I had one when I got to work along with some Jello and soup. I was absolutely starving by 1am.. I broke down and cried. I needed to eat something. FYI --- I'm NOT REQUIRED to do this pre op diet. The only pre op diet I'm required to do is 24hours prior to surgery is do a clear liquid diet. I was doing this based on getting my mindset for surgery. (surgery scheduled november 13th) I DO NOT need to be on a specific diet because I know that my liver does not need be shrunk since recently I had my gallbladder taken out and my Doctor that did that told me that my liver looks fine. I hope you guys are not mad at me! I know I'm going to be ready for eating when I'm done with my surgery. You have to understand with this diet that I was trying to be on, there was lack of motivation since I wasn't required to do it. I know that with the lap band, if I DON'T DO IT RIGHT then I will have major consequences such as weight gain, band slippage, etc. I'll keep you posted next week.

I am going Thur nutrition counseling now and they said after surgery I will be eating a few ounces 5 times a day. I like to eat more than that but not as much as I do now. For instance when I sit down to dinner with friends I want to eat like one leg of chicken with two vegetables is this possible? Hi there! Here's the blog I promised you last week. Yesterday I had to have surgery to get my gallbladder removed because I have what's called "bililary dyskenisa"(sp?). My surgeon was Dr. Peter Ng. He did a very good job. He told me that my gallbladder was chronically inflamed and it was good I got it out when I did. I have about 4 incisions on my stomach since it was done laprascopic.---Thanks god for that part! Until then I'm off work till next Wednesday the 22nd of July. Talk to you guys later when I find out the details on July 28th from the consultation with Dr. Enochs on the 28th for the lapband surgery. Bye!
