About Us: The Obesity Management Program, as part of the Bariatric Surgery service, is an American Society for Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, a designation that recognizes obesity treatment programs that are comprehensive in nature and demonsrate a track record of positive outcomes in bariatric surgery. The program offers both medical and surgical approaches to weight loss, with the two most common surgical procedures being Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and adjustable gastric banding. GBMC offers an extensive multidisciplinary team approach to caring for bariatric patients based on criteria established by the National Institutes of Health. In addition to a specially trained clinical staff of surgeons, operating room nurses, nurse practitioners and nutritionists, the program offers access to exercise and wellness programs, extensive patient education via pre- and post-operative support groups, psychiatric consultation, pulmonary consultation and sleep studies.
